This deciduous shrub grows 4-6 feet high, from 4000' to 7,000' in many different locales such as mountainsides, canyons, open woodlands, and rimrock. Particularly liking swales where snow lays during the winter. Prefers rocky, well-drained soil. Branches are reddish and the bark is gray, brown. Leaves are grayish green with some yellow accents. Birch leaf Mahogany is often seen with Big sagebrush, Bitterbrush, Gambel Oak and serviceberry. Hardy in zones 4-10
Most notable for being heat tolerant and widely enjoyed by wildlife large and small, whether it be for food or cover. Increases biodiversity and wildlife habitat.
