Birchleaf Mountain Mahogany aka True Mountain Mahogany or Alderleaf Mountain Mahogany is small tree or shrub that grows in dry mountainous areas around 7,500 ft and under. Can be found in canyons, open woodlands, sage steppe, rimrock and sunny mountainsides, particularly liking snow swales where snow piles up during the Winter.

A unique plant, with almost 365 days a year interest. Early Spring Flowers, deep green in the summer, and twisty seed tails that persist into winter. Reddish bark and leaves edged in yellow accents. This is a deceptively beautiful shrub.

Prefers rocky, well-drained soil and full sun.  Grows 4-6 ft tall usually, taller in perfect conditions.

Extreme heat tolerance, unique and pretty seeds, and excellent wildlife food and cover. Easy to grow.

90 day cold-moist stratification then plant in large pots or desired location. Or plant outside in the Fall to Early Winter. Bury seed at least 1/2 inch
