It's a short-lived perennial that reseeds heavily. The wands of short and stout, but large scented flowers have a decent vase life, and the smell has a rich-sweetness. Beekeepers say it gives the honey a rich golden color and excellent taste.
Xeric, cold tolerant, extreme drought tolerance, perfect for specimen or mass plantings, pollinator or rock gardens.
Full sun and grows well just about anywhere in Utah except colder mountainous areas that don't receive direct sun in Northern Utah (North facing slopes, wooded areas, shady canyons etc.) It does excellent in the Kamas Valley and will do great anywhere below 8,000 ft that receives direct sun and has fast draining soil.
Try planting with Firecracker and Wasatch for a beautiful tri-color Penstemon display.
