Penstemon leonardii v. leonardii (Leonard's Penstemon) 50 seeds
Leonard's Penstemon is a showy, compact, herbaceous and woody based perennial. Deep blue with violet, lavender to lavender blue, or lavender to violet. Endemic to our Northern uplands and into Southern Idaho. One of our favorites for its beauty, compact size, and being very easy to care for once established.
Found natively in rocky openings in oak-maple-serviceberry, snowberry-sagebrush-bitterbrush-grassland, and less commonly conifer-aspen and lodgepole pine communities. From 6,000 - 10,000 ft.
Very drought-tolerant-needing nothing more than rainfall and found in a variety of habitats make this a great addition to your xeric garden or native yard and could excel in rock gardens or as a ground cover. The woody stems will make interesting shapes for a penstemon, going in all directions and holding flowers just off the ground.
Full sun to part shade in rocky fast draining soil. Hardy in zones 4-8
